Did you know that...
many Kiwis enjoy walking barefoot virtually anywhere? Don't be surprised (or nauseated) if you see dirty feet shuffling through grocery stores, gum-smothered sidewalks, dilapidated public washrooms, and other shared areas of society. It all fits with New Zealand's more carefree and less safety conscious characteristics. I shock even myself with the following confession: I actually find it refreshing. Why? Because the extreme phobia of being sued has not yet reached the level where citizens have no responsibility for their decisions- as unhygienic as the barefoot fad may be!
Maybe I will write...
Anyone there?! I am sure this blog lacks the interest so many others have (ie. fancy decor and graphic design, lengthy articles that stimulate steamy debate, tasty recipes, etc.), so I will not be utterly shocked by the lack of visits. I was determined not to write on our blog... at times I feel that my rambles might only do more damage than good. The older I get (doesn't that sound ridiculous),the more I feel that sometimes it is wise to refrain from overly opinionated discussions. I have already participated in enough of those throughout my 25 years. I must admit, a more selfish reason was that there is some vulnerability in me (Cara) writing, specifically because I am an English teacher! Be gracious, please. I will not always have the time to edit, polish, refine, reword, etc. However, so many people have asked about our wordless blog- they enjoy the pictures, but want to read more about our time here in New Zealand. So I have caved under the pressure. Hopefully, through our writing, you will be able to share in some of our Kiwi experiences!
